Want to have upper arms defined and toned?
You then primarily have to do exercises on biceps. Or this is at least what a lot of people believe. But if you want arms sculpted your triceps are just as critical as your biceps. The muscle of the "three-headed" composes approx. Two-thirds of your upper arm and a pleasing horseshoe shape to the back of your neck. Its main function as the counterpart to the biceps is to extend the arm at the elbow joint.
As the name suggests, triceps are a group of 3 muscles on the back of your neck, extending from your shoulder to your elbow (opposite the bicep). They are used for fine motor skills such as drawing, as well as shooting a basketball, playing tennis, doing pushups and yoga – think about how much it hurts when your coach makes you practice going back and forth from dog or plank facing down to cobra.
It's important to note that there's no such thing as 'targeted weight loss,' so performing all of the world's tricep exercises won't automatically give you lean, sculpted arms (if that's your goal) but strengthening your tricep muscles can benefit you by adding strength, making other upper body exercises easier, and helping your body lose weight, as muscle mass absorbs calories faster, even at rest.
