The lower abs can be an area to aim which is notoriously difficult. Because, really, before you ever want to see them again in your workout line-up, you can only do so many scissor punches. (Trust me, I know.) But it is here that Pilates comes in.
In the latest episode of Good Moves, teacher Chloe De Winter takes you through a series of exercises that not only make your core 's hard-to-target area feel like it's on fire. Besides toned abs, you will still be able to reap some significant benefits. "The core muscles are really necessary as they help our low back and pelvis stabilize and make us feel solid, stable, and comfortable," she says. (Side note: Strengthening your lower abs naturally also enhances sex, so there's that.)
While there's plenty of Pilates exercises you can do that will cause you to sweat for up to one hour, this one is short and simple. The series actually only needs 11 minutes of your time. But don't let them fool you. De Winter is not wasting a second as she goes through fantastic lower abs Pilates movements such as single and double toe pushes, glute lifts, plank to pikes, and roll-ups. Yeah, and a lot of pulses.
While this exercise will test you physically through the slow and steady burn, it will test you mentally as well. In those same moments you are pushing yourself to keep going, De Winter says it's also important to think about what's going on with your midsection to get the best results. Do it whenever she says to scoop off your belly. "You can find a deeper link inside your abdominals? "She 's Saying. "Think about where the activation comes from."
