What's in a Cookie?

Cookies are pieces of data that are stored by the server of a website on your computer or mobile device. Only the server can download or read the cookie 's contents as each cookie is unique to your web browser. By allowing a website to 'remember' you, cookies are used to improve the user experience. Cookies are unable to bear viruses and there is no risk in this regard. Some of the websites you visit can use cookies but by switching them on and off in your browser you can control cookies. For detailed guidance, please visit http:/www.aboutcookies.org to find out more.

Nevertheless, it's important to understand what a cookie does before you make a decision to turn off cookies.

What does a Cookie Do?

Cookies do several different things, the majority of which are of great benefit to the consumer. A Cookie lets you move easily between pages; it stores your preferences, knowing what you are like. Cookies also help enhance the experience on your website, and so have a value for the customer. One of a cookie's very important features is that they remember you and that if there are websites that you visit regularly if you log in the website will remember you and keep you logged in as you move between pages. When you don't know the website, then you can have trouble staying logged in when you switch from page to page.

Cookies are also very useful for website owners and can be used for marketing and advertisement purposes. The website you are visiting may set cookies, but they may also be set by a third party website which may run content on the page you are visiting.

Below is a brief overview of what the YourFitnessRink website does with the cookies and what they are used for. We hope you are happy with this use, but if you are not, then you can remove cookies from YourFitnessRink that have visited the site. Read our Disclaimer / Terms for more information.

There are various types of Cookies:

Session cookie-this will be used for the duration of your visit. More information about session cookies and what they are used to can be found at http:/www.allaboutcookies.org/cookies/session-cookies-used-for.html

Persistent Cookie- These cookies are stored between browser sessions on a user's device that allows the user to remember preferences or actions across a site / s.

First and third party cookies - This refers to whether the domain of the website which places the cookie is 'first' or 'third'. First party cookies are the ones created by the user 's website visited. Cookies from third parties are those provided by a domain other than the one that is being visited.

YourFitnessRink (1st Party Cookies) Cookies on our website:

Cookies "Session" can be used to recall different details about your stay, such as remembering your log-in for you or what items you have in your shopping basket. These Cookies are considered strictly necessary for the website's functioning. When you delete cookies otherwise some of your site's features will be disabled.

Comments on the blog- If you want to leave a comment on our blog then you must either be logged in as a member, or you must include your name and email address.

Other domains on our site (3rd Party Cookies):

Google Adsense- Google uses this cookie which reports to us about whether the ads about our website are being promoted. All data about users are anonymous. More on Google and its advertising policies can be found at http:/www.google.com/policies/privacy/ads/

DoubleClick (Google)- This is very similar to the Google Adsense Cookie, but is specific to any advertisement displayed on our site. All data about users are anonymous. More on Google and its advertising policies can be found at the above-given link for Google

Google Analytics- This is what we use to help us understand how our content is being used to enhance the user experience. See http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en/analytics/privacyoverview.html for more detail on Google's stance on privacy in relation to its analytics service.

Social buttons - You'll see most of the 'social buttons' functionality on our blog. These let users share or bookmark web pages. Our website includes Twitter, Google+1, 'Like' on Facebook, and 'share' on Linkedin. We have had to implement scripts from outside of Lifestyle Fitness to connect these buttons to the relevant social networks and external sites. Despite that, these external sources are likely to gather data on what you're doing all over the place, not just on our website. For each of these sites, you can review the respective policies to see if any information they may have collected during your session is being used and to find out how to reject or delete this information.

External web services- Sometimes we need to use external web services, mostly to show content on our websites, such as Flickr, YouTube, and Vimeo. Many secondary sources can also be used in time, so the list given isn't exhaustive. As with the social buttons, we can not prevent the collection of information on the use of this embedded material by these pages or external domains. If you are not logging in to these external services, they do not know who you are, but will still be able to gather anonymous information on our website during every session.

Email tracking – There is no monitoring of any of the emails we deliver to you, such as service emails or invoice emails. We do however send you emails from time to time containing monitoring, i.e. newsletters, deals, etc. We monitor these emails so that we can see how much traffic they send to our website and help us better what we're doing. Often we use personal details, for example, to re-mail people who haven't clicked the first time, but if you prefer we haven't done that and you want to opt-out, you can do it through your account.
